Guidelines for Research Proposals and/or Course Offerings
|Walter Dalquest donated the first parcel of land to Midwestern State University for the sole purpose of undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research aimed at understanding the Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem. It offers a valuable opportunity to study the geological and biological features of a relatively undisturbed corner of the Chihuahuan desert. This is a fragile ecosystem that is susceptible to degradation from excessive use. In an effort to maintain the undisturbed character of the DDRS, Midwestern State University has established the following guidelines for its use.|
1. Access to the DDRS will be permitted by the DDRS Advisory Committee once a research project and/or course offering has been approved.
2. Once the proposed research or educational use of the DDRS has been approved, the individual in charge will be notified in writing by the Midwestern State University DDRS Advisory Committee. This must be completed prior to the beginning of such use.
Format for a written proposal for research:
1. Sponsoring institution, primary investigator and primary field workers
2. Research objectives
a. Purpose of Research

b. Description of proposed removal of natural resources (plant
4. Intended use of results
B. Proposed number, frequency and duration of visits
C. Source and amount of funding
D. Will the results be used in the preparation of a research proposal to a federal or state agency? Which agency and provide details. Will the proposal entail additional research at DDRS?
In addition the PI must also agree in writing:
