MPA-Health Services Administration

The MPA in Health Services Administration degree is a 36 hour program, designed for students who are interested in pursuing careers in public sector, non-profit, and government healthcare organizations.  The program places emphasis on the technical and managerial skills necessary for effective leadership in a wide range of areas including human resource management, public health departments, city health department, OSHA etc.

Students are also invited to pursue an 18 hour Graduate Certificate in Health Services Administration  (MPA-GCHSA).  Students interested in the MPA-GCHSA program will complete 21 hours of core MPA course work and 18 hours of GCHSA course work for a total of 39 hours.  The MPA-Graduate Certificate in Health Services Administration program is primarily for students who are interested in public health administration but are unsure as to which area of health services they would like to pursue.

Graduation Requirements

Oral Exam

A comprehensive oral exam is required of all degree candidates.


Thesis/Research Paper

All Thesis students must follow the requirements for a thesis as described in the MSU Graduate Catalog and those found in the MPA Graduate Handbook. All non-thesis and GCAJ students must complete a file paper.

If a research paper is not completed during regular course work, students must enroll in PUAD 5003 until the paper meets standards.
