Q: How do I sign up for direct deposit or Chase Debit Card?
A: Direct deposit or Chase Debit Card is available to all MSU employees. Complete the Direct Deposit Authorization form, attach a voided check, or fill out the Chase Debit Card application located in the Payroll Forms, and return the form/application to the Payroll Office.
Q: Why isn’t Social Security tax being taken from my paycheck?
A: MSU students who work on campus may be eligible for an exemption from FICA taxes. See the explanation regarding FICA exemption on our “Payroll Instructions” page.
Q: Why isn’t Federal Income Tax being withheld from my paycheck?
A: Federal income tax deductions are based on each individual’s W-4 information. W-4 forms are available in the Payroll Office or you can access a W-4 through the link on our “Payroll Forms” page. If you are unsure of how many allowances you should claim on your W-4, please visit the IRS website and use the W-4 calculator provided. (Withholding Calculator) Return the original W-4 form to the Payroll Office for processing.
Q: When are W-2’s mailed each year?
A: W-2’s are processed and mailed and will be available on Self-Sevice Banner by January 31st each year. To have your W-2 delivered to you electronically, sign in to Self Service Banner. Click Employee, then Tax Forms, then Electronic Consent, click My Choice & Submit.
Q: The first of the month is on Saturday. Will I be paid the Friday before or the Monday after?
A: When the first of the month falls on a weekend or a holiday, payday will be the first business day of the month. Please refer to the schedule of pay dates located on our “Important Dates” page.
