In addition to traditional fundraising efforts to benefit Midwestern State University, University Advancement also offers unique funding opportunities, donor recognition and relationship building with our donors. These are a few of the programs this year…
50th Reunion Giving
Reunion is a great time to remember the Midwestern experience and to give back to MSU. In recognition of the education they received, all they accomplished, and what they continue to gain from being a part of the Midwestern community, undergraduate alumni celebrating their 50th Reunion 2011 (Class of 1961) have committed to supporting Midwestern generously through the Annual Fund with a special scholarship opportunity for a graduating senior.
The University derives strength from the enthusiastic support of parents whose gifts underscore their belief in the power of an Midwestern education. The Parent Fund hopes to receive $16,000 from parents during the 2011-2012 Campaign to add to the endowment which is now approximately $100,000.
5-year Consecutive Giving Society
Loyal supporters with five consecutive years of giving to Midwestern State University Annual Fund receive special recognition on their 5th year in Sunwatcher Magazine’s Honor Roll of Donors. In addition, they receive an exclusive MSU car emblem. This emblem is just a small way to say “thank you” for their ongoing, annual generosity to the university.
The MSU Phonathon is comprised of student callers who seek support for Midwestern from alumni and parents. The callers have varied backgrounds, interests and majors, but they all share MSU pride and a commitment to its academic excellence. Students make thousands of calls each year sharing stories and learning about the experiences of others while asking for support of Midwestern. In addition, they use this opportunity to update contact information so MSU can share the latest news, events and achievements. It is an integral part of the overall success of the Midwestern Annual Fund.
Student Giving – Mustangs In Action
Students choose to support either the Scholarship Endowment or the Class of 2010 Senior Gift Campaign by donating to the Midwestern Annual Fund. The Class of 2010 purchased a bench to mark their legacy on the MSU campus (located in Sunwatcher Plaza). The bench will be unveiled in May 2010.
MSU Donor Recognition Wall
The first recognition wall on the MSU campus will arrive in May 2010. Annual donors who make $250 gifts or more to benefit the Lamar D. Fain College of Fine Arts will be recognized annually on a donor wall in the lobby of the Fain Fine Arts Building. Gifts that provide permanent endowments will be engraved for ongoing recognition.
Alumni and friends can help MSU build scholarship endowments to pay tribute to outstanding faculty. Projects must be preapproved for development. Projects for 2010 include the Ivy Boland Music Scholarship and Dr. Louie Huffman Scholarship.
To honor outstanding people and programs, special scholarship efforts are being made to establish endowments for the Colee Sociology Scholarship, Darrell G. Kirkland Boy Scouts Scholarship, and the Joe Don Daniels Memorial Scholarship. In addition, a special challenge gift will match donations up to $5,000 for men’s soccer through the Waldrum Soccer Challenge. Another match available is the Laing/Guinn Scholarship Challenge. This matching gift challenge will match dollar-for-dollar up to $20,000 for any donation made to scholarships.
Memorial / Honor Funds
Funds can be created to honor or memorialize a person and benefit students at Midwestern State University with a scholarship in his/her name. Many methods can be used to create memorials or honor funds. Common methods include outright gifts or gifts made through a will or trust. This is a wonderful way to provide recognition for someone.
