Financial Aid Specialist II
This position is responsible for a state, federal, or local financial aid program of the university under the direct supervision of a Financial Aids Director. Work includes considerable public contact in interpreting and explaining policies and regulations regarding financial aid, counseling students concerning financial aid eligibility, and repayment of loans. Activities may include supervision of other office employees and the processing of important clerical work.
Interviews and counsels students, parents, and others regarding eligibility requirements for financial aid and/or repayment of loans and collection of delinquent accounts. Prepares reports furnishing information of the student's status, classification, grade point average, residency, etc. Answers and initiates correspondence to advise applicants regarding their eligibility for financial aid, status of their loan application, repayment of loans and collection of delinquent accounts. Blocks and clears academic records. Performs related duties as required.
Two years of experience in general clerical work, involving the counseling experience.
Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, and business mathematics. Ability to make difficult mathematical computations and tabulations rapidly and accurately. Ability to prepare accurate reports for fund accounting information. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and other employees, and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully. Typing test required.
Completion of two years of college, including courses in typing and/or bookkeeping.
Knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures with ability to present formal briefings. Use of computer and 10-key by touch with good interpersonal skills. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Typing test required.
