Theater Technical Assistant
Duties include maintenance and repair of theatre equipment and facilities, assisting with lighting design and execution, supervising sound design and implementation, assisting with stage properties, and providing technical support for on-campus lectures and programs held in the Fine Arts Theatre. Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Theatre.
Preparation of light and sound plots for theatre productions. Ordering and construction of stage properties. Gathering and editing of sound effects. Updating lobby displays and helping maintain the sound/light booth and equipment, as well as outer areas of the theatre plant. Computer-assisted design, especially of music and sound effects. Collaboration with members of a theatre-production team.
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and bend. Ability to climb a ladder and to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
One year of experience in educational, community, or professional theatre.
Working knowledge of the design/technical elements of theatre, especially sound and lighting, and of the way in which these elements serve to conceptualize a production.
B.A. in theatre required. B.F.A. in theatre preferred.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others and independently in the absence of direct supervision. Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends. Ability to supervise, and delegate to, students. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a post-offer employment physical exam and a *valid Texas driver’s license. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
