Title: Carpenter II
Description: Skilled journeyman level carpentry work involving both rough and finish carpentry work, and the use of power and hand tools in the maintenance and repair of building structures and fixtures, cabinets, mill work, and furniture. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Carpenter Foreperson. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may require heavy lifting, stooping, working on roofs, ladders, and scaffolds, and the operation of power saws and equipment. This position usually serves as leadsman for the Carpenter I position.
Examples: Serves as lead person and supervises other carpenters and helpers in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, walls, stairways, doors, windows, and other structures. Performs general mill work and does interior trim work. Installs cabinets and tops. Operates planers, band saws, hand power saws, hand power drills, sanding machines, and uses other hand tools of the trade. Maintains record of materials and labor expended on each job.
Physical Condition: Moderate to heavy physical work with occasional lifting of heavy objects. Physical ability to work outdoors in all types of weather. Must be able to drive vehicles, climb ladders, work from scaffolds, and operate all applicable shop equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Experience: Five years experience as a journeyman carpenter in general construction, repair and maintenance of buildings. Must have experience dealing directly with the customer and in solving customer problems.
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, equipment, and materials of the trade. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to do both rough and finish carpentry work. Ability to work from sketches or blueprints, and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment used in the carpentry trade.
Education: Graduation from high school or vocational school.
Additional Requirements: Demonstrated self-motivated work ethic and good customer service abilities. Must be experienced in office, commercial and residential construction/renovation. Must be able to remove resilient floor covering materials and asbestos in accordance with code. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires employment physical exam. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
