Title: Locksmith
Description: Performs all duties necessary for the maintenance and repair of the campus locks and hardware. Duties include the computerized record keeping and other duties necessary to maintain campus wide security of the locks and keys. Reports to the Superintendent, Facilities Services.
Examples: Primary duties will be to do bit coding, repair, maintenance, and installation of locks; cut, stamp, and issue keys; maintain paperwork as well as computerized record of keys for all campus personnel and all locks on campus. Repairs and maintains hardware of all types throughout campus, and maintains the security of the campus-wide keying system. May train other persons in the locksmithing trade and perform carpentry duties related to hardware and other carpentry tasks.
Physical Condition: Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Requires employment physical exam.
Experience: Should have a minimum of five year experience in locksmithing and hardware repair. Training and record keeping skills are required.
Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of Corbin/Russwin keying systems and locks; knowledge of other commercial hardware including panic devices and closers is required. Ability to understand and work from manufacturer bitting instructions and other hardware manufacturer instructions is a requirement. Skill in disassembly and assembly of locks and hardware and in the use of locksmithing tools. Cutting keys and using cutters, grinders, and buffers in a safe and efficient manner.
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Proficiency in reading and writing is required.
Additional Requirements: Keen eyesight and good hand dexterity are required. Person must be able to do tedious work of bit coding and repair of locks as well as the physical ability to climb a ladder, reach, twist, push, and pull as necessary to work on door closures and hardware. Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing up to fifty pounds. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
