The Utility Mechanic repairs pumps and underground utilities, installs sprinkler systems, welds pipe and structural steel, operates all job related equipment, and performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Central Plant Superintendent.
Installs, maintains and repairs pumps, sprinkler systems, plumbing fixtures, and gas, water, air and sewer systems. Replaces and repairs valves and cuts, threads, and joins pipes and fittings. Changes belts on air handlers. Designs steel fabrication.
Must be able to lift objects weighing fifty pounds or more and carry out scheduled daily maintenance activity, to include using and/or operating tools and equipment common to the mechanical and plumbing trades.
Must have a minimum of five years experience in the maintenance of plumbing, steam and chilled water systems
Must have a thorough knowledge in the safe use of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of the plumbing trade as well as strong mechanical knowledge.
Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by vocational training or other special training related to the field or work. Plumbing license preferred.
Five years plumbing experience, with a state plumbing license preferred. Mechanical knowledge of equipment used in maintenance of steam and chilled water systems, underground utilities and campus plumbing. Employment physical required.
