Title: Plumber I
Description: Skilled work involving the installation, maintenance, and servicing of plumbing systems. Involves installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing gas, water, air, and sewer lines. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Central Plant Superintendent. The employee in this class may supervise plumber's helper or laborers. Work involves heavy lifting, crawling through tunnels and attics, and danger from hot water burns, gas fumes, and exposure to inclement weather.
Examples: Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures, and gas, water, and sewer systems. Replaces and repairs valves, and cuts, threads, and joins pipes and fittings. Unstops sewers, lavatories, sinks, and commodes. Uses all tools of the plumbing trade, including sewer rotorooter, drain line rotorooter, threading machines, drill presses, and hand tools. Performs manual labor, including ditch digging, carrying heavy materials, etc.
Physical Condition: Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds.
Experience: Two years of experience as a licensed journeyman plumber.
Knowledge: Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of the plumbing trade. Ability to locate and identify troubles in plumbing lines or equipment, and plan and lay out necessary repairs. Skill in the use of the standard tools, equipment, and machines of the plumbing trade.
Education: Graduation from high school or vocational school, or GED.
Additional Requirements: Two years plumbing experience required with a Texas state plumbing license. Have knowledge of plumbing fixtures, parts and supplies with experience in trouble shooting and repairing problems. Be able to use power and hand tools, read blue prints, and work in difficult weather and space conditions. Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Current valid Texas state plumbing license required. *Employment physical exam required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
