Director, Institutional Research and Assessment
The Director of Institutional Research and Assessment oversees all university wide data collection, data analysis, planning, research, assessment, and outcomes measurements. Serves as the university point of contact and coordinates and integrates the ongoing planning-assessment-improvement cycle for all student and functional outcomes and services at all levels of the university. Responsible for the institutional research function of the university. Responsible for the overall daily operations of the office, including hiring, supervising and evaluating staff. Reports to the Vice President for Administration Institutional Effectiveness.
Collects, reports, and interprets statistical data and conducts institutional research for use by the university as well as other government agencies involved in planning, policy formulation, budgeting, enrollment management, decision making, assessment, accreditation, and administration. Remains current in the knowledge and techniques of “best practice” pertaining to current research involving student and functional outcomes assessment and higher education research. Provides data with assured accuracy to the university community for program reviews and accreditations, to the federal government, to the state of Texas, and to personnel from external agencies when deemed appropriate and in the best interests of the university
Requires a minimum of three years experience related to statistical research and evaluation, preferably in higher education. Should be familiar with current techniques to include; data collection, data verification and analysis, best practices in assessment, sampling instruments and techniques, survey tools and techniques, time series analysis, multiple regression, modeling, trends analysis, sampling techniques, and cost analyses. Familiarity with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) is a plus.
Must possess a thorough knowledge of current research methods and statistical procedures and be able to create measurement instruments that will provide timely, accurate information. Must be able to convert the institution's operational data into management information, must be familiar with current statistical analysis techniques to include comparative analysis, modeling, marketing research, needs assessment, trends analysis, and multiple regression techniques. Should be familiar with the measurement of student and functional outcomes and the examination of the measures in the context of student, program, and institutional goals and quantitative and qualitative characteristics of all programs. Must be able to analyze data and to prepare and present clear and concise reports. Should have a good understanding of state requirements regarding higher education staffing, organization and function. Must be familiar with most current computer software to include word processing, spreadsheet, and SPSS software and be comfortable in either a mainframe or personal computer environment. Experience with SCT Banner is preferred.
Masters degree in a field related to research such as mathematics, statistics, operations research, public administration, or industrial psychology. Ph.D. is preferred.
Must be able to exercise independent judgment and perform complicated, detailed tasks in a timely manner with little or no supervision. Must have good oral and written communication skills and be comfortable communicating with and presenting material to senior level officials and large groups of people. Ability to effectively supervise staff. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
