Title: Librarian, Information Services / Government Publications
Description: Reports to Associate University Librarian for Public Services. Oversees all aspects of government documents collection development at Moffett Library, including annual item updates for federal documents, revision of collection development policies/procedures, and selection of new materials, including reference materials, added by purchase or gift. Serves as the primary contact with the state and federal agencies that ensure compliance with federal and state depository regulations. Provides primary reference services and classroom instruction for government publications in all formats. Works closely with the Technical Services Department to ensure that incoming depository materials are processed and that obsolete materials are removed according to depository guidelines. Participates in the provision of general reference service to library users on-site and at a distance. Participates in the library instruction program, including instruction with subject specific- classes and College Connections students. Serves as faculty partner with the Dillard College of Business Administration and course-specific library instruction sessions. Serves on Library and University committees.
Examples: Serves as the primary library liaison to faculty in assigned departments and as a resource librarian and liaison for students and faculty in all academic departments. Provides curricular resource development and selective dissemination of subject information. Develops and teaches classes for academic courses, including College Connections, subject classes through senior theses seminars, and other library and research skills. Creates resource and instruction guides, selective bibliographies, and point-of-use aids. Teaches the use of research sources. Assists library users with specialized resources in all formats including, the public catalog, databases, and internet resources. Develops and maintains selected library web pages providing information and instruction. Maintains subject and technical expertise through ongoing education and professional development. Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors. Works as a member of the Public Services team. Provides reference service at public service points. Maintains current awareness of reference and research tools. Works cooperatively to accomplish the goals of Information Literacy. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Condition:
Experience: Two years of post-MLS experience in an academic library is preferred.
Knowledge: Knowledge of specialized document resources in all formats. Ability to develop and maintain web pages. Technical expertise and knowledge of reference and research tools. Ability to develop and teach academic courses. Proficient in Microsoft computer applications.
Education: Requires a graduate degree in Library or Information Science and a strong background in at least one liberal arts academic subject.
Additional Requirements: Interpersonal communication skills, ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision, attention to detail, ability to interact with a variety of clients. Ability to develop strong working relationships with faculty and to promote the services offered by Moffett Library. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *May be required to work non-traditional hours including some evening and/or weekend hours. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
