Title: Director, Intensive English Language Institute
Description: Reporting to the Provost/Vice President Academic Affairs, the Director is responsible for planning and managing a program of intensive English language instruction for non-native speakers of English who want to increase their English language proficiency for personal, academic or professional reasons. This includes instruction in grammar, oral skills, composition and reading.
Examples: The Director plans and administers the IELI budget; hires and supervises instructors; develops course curricula for students with differing levels of English proficiency (Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced); counsels and advises individual students; manages office operations; and teaches classes as required.
Physical Condition:
Experience: Three-to-five years college teaching experience in a pre-academic ESL program, preferably within the United States; significant experience in curriculum design and implementation. Experience in administration, personnel management, budget, and student recruitment in an ESL program preferred.
Knowledge: Should be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and commonly used office software programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Education: Master degree required, doctorate preferred, from an accredited university, in Teaching English as a Second Language, Foreign Language Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field
Additional Requirements: Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, with individuals with varying levels of English proficiency. Must be able to plan and work within a fiscally responsible budget and manage day-to-day office operations. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
