Academic Advisor Coordinator
The Academic Advisor Coordinator is responsible to the dean of the College to supervise, manage, and coordinate the activities of the College Advising Center, which are intended to help students plan their academic study and maximize their academic potential. Counsels undergraduate students in the Universityís core curriculum and relevant degree program requirements. Determines studentsí eligibility for enrolling in upper-division courses in the College. Verifies students eligibility for graduation. Coordinates the student internship program. Performs other duties as assigned by the dean.
Works with students to provide information regarding degree programs, educational options, and requirements. Works with and supervises College Advising Center staff to ensure that advising, recruiting, and student retention programs are successful. Recruits employers for student internship program, communicates with such employers, and coordinates placement of students with employers.
Minimum of two years previous experience in academic advising. Must be experienced in the use of computer software applications (Microsoft Office preferred). Experience with MSU student software system is helpful.
Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of or be able to quickly learn the curricula and requirements of the Collegeís various programs and the Universityís core curriculum.
Must have a demonstrated interest in working with and assisting students. Must be able to handle a heavy volume of student traffic. Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to make group presentations and participate in other professional activities. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
