Title: Manager, Facilities Information and University Health/ Safety
Description: Responsible concurrently for the management of facilities information and the universityís health/safety risk functions. Provides responsible professional, administrative, and technical work in the management of facilities information to include drawings and specifications on buildings and infrastructure of campus facilities and the development of databases on space management and geographic information. Develops, manages, and implements university safety procedures to ensure compliance with state fire and life safety codes, EPA regulations, and the University Crisis Management Plan. Reports to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Services.
Examples: Develops and maintains physical plant information on university facilities to include: project archives, floor plans, schematics, utility system maps, campus base maps, and other facilities information. Provides technical and administrative support in campus planning and construction projects. Maintains perpetually accurate facilitiesí inventory and submits reports to The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Interfaces with university departments to determine the most efficient utilization of campus space. Participates as a member of the facility audit peer review team and THECB working groups. Manages changes in campus building or room signage. Assists university departments to develop, manage, and implement plans/procedures to comply with federal and state mandates. Assists in processing Workerís Compensation claims. Responsible for university employeesí safety training and safety equipment purchases, inventory, and inspections; coordinates contract services for all required safety inspections and Bio/Hazardous waste collection. Maintains website. Manages and documents hazardous/special waste generation and disposal; responsible for monthly fire extinguisher and emergency light inspections. Manages technical support for security systems. In coordination with the academic departments, manages the universityís MSDS inventory and documentation. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Condition: Moderate physical activity required with occasional lifting of objects weighing more than fifty pounds. Must be able to work at a computer desk for extended periods. Must be able to crawl, stoop, and stand for extended periods of time.
Experience: Five or more years of professional experience which includes document control of technical drawings/specifications, drafting techniques, AutoCAD usage, customer service in a technical field, database management (Access preferred), presentations, commercial safety practices/procedures, campus facilities planning, or similar experience. Work requires experience with emergency responses, disaster planning, emergency management, or emergency preparedness. Work in law enforcement, fires services or other related emergency response units required.
Knowledge: Wide range in knowledge of computer database management and skill in use of PC based computer programs. Excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of mechanical trades, the ability to read blueprints, and planning/budgeting. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, including: Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, and Explorer. Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD software is desired. NFPA 101 Life Safety Code familiarity, state fire codes, and becoming a Registered Accessibility Specialist. Familiarity with MSU campus is desirable. *Certification in risk management and individual NIMS (National Incident Management System) compliant is preferred.
Education: Associates degree in drafting, architectural, engineering, computer science or related field. Years of related hands-on work experience may be substituted.
Additional Requirements: Must be accessible and able to respond appropriately, in person or otherwise, to urgent or emergency situations that arise on weekends and in evenings. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and consensus building skills. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Employment physical exam required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
