Assistant Director, Facilities Services
Serves as a key administrator of facilities services responsible for various operations of the department to include management, supervision, and coordination of all capital construction on campus. Assists with management, supervision, and coordination of overall physical plant operations. Reports to the Associate Vice President, Facilities Services.
Primarily responsible for project management of capital construction projects, including estimating, budgeting, scheduling, coordination with university personnel, contract administration, and quality control of the construction process. Responsible for the facilitiesí building and room inventory reports submitted to The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Responsible for the development and maintenance of physical plant information on university facilities to include: project archives, floor plans, schematics, utility system maps, campus base maps, and other facilities information. Serves as the universityís risk manager and safety coordinator, through the management and implementation of various university safety functions and procedures, ensuring compliance with state fire and life safety codes, EPA regulations, and other associated safety responsibilities. Manages all operations in the absence of the Associate VP and assists Associate VP in developing strategies for improving customer service. Also provides direct and indirect supervision of physical plant personnel; sets the direction for greater efficiency and effectiveness of physical plant operations; provides budgeting and planning guidance; oversees job/worker order operations to ensure accurate cost estimates; develops preventive maintenance programs.
Moderate physical activity required with occasional lifting of objects weighing more than fifty pounds. Must be able to crawl, stoop, and stand for extended periods of time.
Eight or more years experience including management and supervision of building construction oversight, building maintenance (electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC), environmental safety /risk management, and office operations. Experience working in a university environment is preferred.
Proficient with AutoCAD, word processing, spreadsheet and database computer programs. Knowledge in all aspects of building systems, operation, materials, methods, and technology.
Bachelorís degree in one of the recognized engineering disciplines or equivalent relevant experience. Master's degree and Professional registration is preferred, but not required.
Skill in planning and effectively managing multiple projects to completion. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to deal with contractors, vendors, university administrators, and a diverse workforce with courtesy and professionalism. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *An employment physical examination is required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
