Title: Director, Upward Bound
Description: The Director is reponsible for administering all aspects of the Upward Bound program, to include planning and program development, budgeting, and testing as well as for managing and supervising day-to-day office operations. Reports to the Director of the Academic Success Center.
Examples: Development of a student needs policy and system of analysis for students. Supervision of needs assessment and documentation of need for program services for each student. Documentation of student, eligibility for program services, participation in program activities, testing and academic performance according to Department of Education regulation. Provide special assistance and resources to handicapped, ESL and troubled students including counseling. Tracking high school grade performance of all Upward Bound students. Administration of orientation and in-service staff training for staff. Monitoring, documenting, publicizing, and evaluating project activities including annual performance reporting. Application for continuing grant funding annually and assisting the Grants Office in writing grants to secure continuing funding of the project.
Physical Condition: Must be physically able to drive.
Experience: Minimum of two years experience working with high school or college students in areas of career development, academic success, and or personal development. At least one year experience working with disadvantaged youth desirable. Teaching experience, especially with adolescents, desired.
Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers as well as commonly used office software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Should also have good knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, budgeting, recordkeeping, and personnel management. A working knowledge of college selection, admissions and financial aid very desirable. Understanding of local issues also helpful.
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a Master's degree or Master's degree in progress preferable. Preferred major areas of study are Social and Behavioral Sciences, Business, Education, and Counseling.
Additional Requirements: Must be able to type, operate 10-key by touch, and use a computer to organize material and prepare written documentation. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a van. Good verbal and written skills essential. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
