Title: Academic Coordinator, Upward Bound
Description: Works closely with the Upward Bound Director in overseeing the Academic and cultural development of students in the program. Supervises academic instructors and tutors, cultural and recreational staff. Determines materials required for academic, cultural and recreational activities. Assist in assessing needs of students served.
Examples: Oversees and coordinates instruction during Saturday academic meetings. During the summer, the coordinator helps plan the academic programming and hire necessary staff. The coordinator tracks attendance during summer and school year and tracks academic performance. Cultural and recreational classes and field trips are planned and organized by the Director with the help of the Academic Coordinator.
Physical Condition: Must be physically capable and have the ability to drive a van.
Experience: Two or more years experience in an educational setting is preferred. Experience working with adolescents from academically and economically disadvantaged background is desirable. Experience in educational assessment, financial aid, and career counseling, helpful. Summer camp experience is helpful.
Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers as well as commonly used office software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Should also have good knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, budgeting, recordkeeping, and personnel management. A working knowledge of college selection, admissions and financial aid very desirable.
Education: Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related field, required. Masterís degree or progress toward Masterís in related field, preferred. Additional education in any related field is desirable, especially if lacking relevant experience.
Additional Requirements: Must be well organized and able to prepare written reports and documentation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills essential. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, especially in the summer. Must be able to work well with teenagers and their parents. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Requires a valid Texas driverís license. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
