Title: Coordinator, Chinese Student Program
Description: Responsible for the academic program with Chinese high school juniors and seniors residing on the MSU campus and attending local high schools. Assists the Office of International Services with the recruitment and acclimation of Chinese college students. Reports to the Director of International Services.
Examples: Designs and produces communication products, including brochures, websites, and social media, to be used in Chinese recruitment. Manages the Chinese language marketing function for all university programs. Coordinates evening supplemental language program. Manages cultural adjustment and translation services for Chinese students. Serves as discipline liaison with local high schools. Counsels students regarding educational issues. Determines if studentís needs are being met. Serves as the liaison with parents and the Office of Housing. Confers with parents to determine priorities and resource needs. Coordinates schedules and travel logistics. Serves as marketing liaison between International Services and all Chinese universities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Condition: Must be able to drive independently.
Experience: One or more years experience in a college or university environment, preferably in a related area such as student affairs or international services. Experience working with Chinese students is required.
Knowledge: Requires strong oral and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Understanding of Chinese customs and culture. Specialized knowledge of Chinese culture and strong skills in marketing software and social media, including Chinese social media. Prior residence, or significant time spent, in China is strongly preferred. Requires the ability to manage budgets and work independently. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and knowledge of commonly used computer software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Education: Bachelor's degree required with emphasis in communications and/or social services.
Additional Requirements: Must be a strong, positive representative of Midwestern State University. Must have a team orientation; be adaptable, flexible, and cooperative; have strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to work with diverse populations. Fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese. *Must be able to work evenings and weekends and hours that may exceed the regular workweek. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a valid driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
