Title: Associate Director, Housing & Dining Services
Description: Assists the Director of Housing & Dining Services in coordinating and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Housing Office and implementing departmental goals, visions, policies, and procedures for a large, complex and critical department on campus. Provides supervision and training of Residence Life staff including Hall Directors, Coordinators, and Resident Assistants. Provide leadership, implementation, and supervision in the development of residential programming and community building. Responsible for residential management in residence halls and apartment complexes.
Examples: Supervises, trains, and evaluates residence life staff, including the Assistant Director, Residence Hall Director, Complex Coordinator, and Graduate Hall Directors. Coordinates the selection of resident assistants. Evaluates the RA staff and programming to ensure applicability to the educational mission of the university and is responsible for effectively administering the programming budget. Responsible for creating and implementing a residence life programming model that fits both residence halls and apartment living. Supervises and coordinates all residence hall openings and closings. Resolves personal concerns, development issues, conflicts, and crises affecting resident students. Coordinates and promotes programs providing leadership development opportunities for students participating in student governance within the residence halls. Assists with supervision of student judicial process. Coordinator for summer camp housing. Other duties as assigned.
Physical Condition:
Experience: Three to five years experience in residence life management; experience in educational and recreational programming.
Knowledge: Must have knowledge of generally accepted office practices and procedures, to include budgeting and personnel management; knowledge of student development theory and of the impact of a residential living-learning environment on student development; and knowledge of theories and philosophies of student discipline. Strong communication and both oral speaking and writing skills are necessary. Ability to plan and coordinate complex, cross-related tasks, make independent decisions, and supervise staff. Must make a strong, positive representation of Midwestern State University. Must be adaptable, flexible, and cooperative.
Education: Master's degree required in college student personnel, counseling, management or related field.
Additional Requirements: Must have the ability to teach, direct, guide and mediate; a participatory management style; counseling skills for a wide range of student and staff concerns; skill working with multicultural groups and individuals; the ability to identify and organize tasks, prioritize duties, and effectively complete the many components of the job; the ability to work under pressure and uneven time constraints; excellent oral and written communication skills; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity. *Regular reliable attendance is required.*This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
