This course will survey works of American Literature written between 1650 and 1865 with the objective of providing students an increased understanding and appreciation of representative works of the period.
Students will be required to read and discuss the individual biographical introductions to each author on their reading list and the cited selections for that particular author.
Grades will be based upon two major exams and three reading quizzes . An optional formal paper for extra credit may be submitted in the MLA format with no fewer than four sources and four to eight, double-spaced, computer-generated pages in length.

All assignments are to be submitted on time unless extenuating circumstances exist and are explained in an office conference.
Regular class attendance is required, and students with excessive absences may be dropped from the class with an automatic grade of of "F." No more than two absences are allowed in TR classes without severe and extremely justifiable extenuating circumstances given as reasons for said absences.
