Course Objectives

Students in this class will develop the ability to:

  • Identify major issues and developments stemming from the 1960s
  • Research an aspect of the 1960s and employ writing conventions suitable for a college level course to present the results of the research 
  • Successfully transition into life in the University and the Honors Program
  • Understand the results of a Myers-Briggs Type Inventory so as to develop personal communication skills, study habits, and career goals
  • Express ideas precisely and persuasively orally and in writing

Course Expectations

Your grade will be based on four items.

Submission Format Policy

Some items will be done in class using forms distributed by the instructor.  Other items will be submitted as e-mail attachments to honors@mwsu.edu



Note: You may not submit a paper for a grade in this class that already has been (or will be) submitted for a grade in another course, unless you obtain the explicit written permission of me and the other instructor involved in advance.

Late Paper Policy

For most items, late work will not be accepted.  Late term papers not more than one week late will loose 20% of the potential grade. 


Plagiarism Policy Plagiarism is the use of someone else's thoughts, words, ideas, or lines of argument in your own work without appropriate documentation (a parenthetical citation at the end and a listing in "Works Cited")-whether you use that material in a quote, paraphrase, or summary. It is a theft of intellectual property and will not be tolerated, whether intentional or not.

Attendance Requirements

Please come to class; please come to class on time. Your class participation grade is effectively a grade for attendance.  If you need to miss a class, arrive late, or leave early you should notify me in a timely fashion.  A modest amount of missing class or tardiness will be subject to a modest penalty if you inform me of why it happens.  But, starting with your 5th absence you will write a 500 word essay on what took place during the last class meeting that you attended.  If this happens you will be given approximately one week to write your essay.  Failure to turn in an assigned absence essay of sufficient quality will result in the loss of one letter grade at the end of the semester.  It is possible for certain absences to not be included in this condition.  For example, participation in field trips for another class, missing class because of a music performance, or missing class because you are a varsity athlete attending a game. 


Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
