COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Be able to use basic volleyball skills during play.
2. Learn and understand the rules and basic strategies of volleyball.
3. Gain a greater understanding and appreciation for volleyball.
4. Learn the history and terminology associated with volleyball.
5. Learn and be able to use the officiating signals needed to officiate a volleyball game.
PARTICIPATION/ATTENDANCE:
Each student will be allowed 3 unexcused absences. For each absence beyond this, 10 points will be deducted from the attendance portion of your grade.
Each student will be required to work/attend 2 volleyball matches during the semester as a part of their class assignments. [25 pts. Each]
DRESS:
Comfortable athletic wear (shorts, t-shirt, socks, etc.). Shirts must be worn.
Good support shoes with cross training shoes being recommended over running shoes.
Jeans, dress clothes, dress shoes, etc., are not appropriate for volleyball.
QUIZZES:
There will be a total of 5 quizzes. They will be worth 10 points each. I will announce the next quiz the week before and they will consist of volleyball terms, positions, techniques, rules, etc. covered in class.
MAKE-UPS:
Make-up exams will be given only to students who miss the original date of examination administration for a verifiable circumstance preventing the student’s attendance. In those instances, it will be the student’s responsibility to schedule any make-up examinations. Make-up examinations may be of a different format than the original examination, so students are strongly encouraged to take examinations when they are scheduled.
GRADING PROCEDURES:
1. Attendance 100 pts.
2. Quizzes 50 pts.
4. Class Assignments 50 pts.
200 pts.
GRADING SCALE:
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 50% or lower
Volleyball Writing Assignment—Extra Credit
Students can complete one writing assignment worth 25 points and will be graded for content, grammar, spelling and completeness. The writing assignment is due by the end of the Tuesday class session on the following date.

Writing Assignment Specifics
1. Each student must complete one (1) writing assignment on their choice of volleyball topics (i.e. history of the sport, skill analysis of hitting, etc.).
2. Papers must be at least 2 FULL PAGES with top, bottom and side margins of no more than .75 inches. A title page should be used and include your name, class, class time, and title of your paper. The paper is to be double spaced, typed, using print no larger than you see on this page.
3. Your paper is to be written in your own words. Use no more than two quotes and do not paraphrase. You may write your paper from a creative perspective, or in the traditional research paper format. You must use proper footnotes and work sited format, and provide a bibliography. Refer to MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers for a guide in writing your paper.
4. A bibliography must be included for credit. If you use the Internet as a resource you must provide a printed copy of the article and the URL address. Failure to provide a bibliography will result in a "0" score on the assignment with no opportunity to complete the assignment after the due date.
5. Incidence of plagiarism will result in a "0" score on the assignment with no opportunity to redo the assignment. Webster's' New World Dictionary defines plagiarizing as "to take ideas, writings etc. from another and offer them as your own work."
6. Incidence of cheating on any test or written work will result in a "0" score on that test or assignment.
7. Papers must be turned in on time to receive full credit. On time means on the assigned date before the end of your scheduled class time.
