Course Objectives

 Upon completion of this course of study the student will be able to:

  1. Identify risk factors for breast cancer.
  2. Describe breast disease signs and symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options.
  3. Discuss the guidelines for mammography screening, breast self-examination, and clinical breast examination.
  4. Compare the risks to the benefits of mammography.
  5. Identify and discuss the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the breast.
  6. Explain mammographic technique needed to obtain quality breast images and resultant diagnosis.
  7. Describe basic positions/projections utilized to image the breast.
  8. Modify these positions/projections based upon patient and physician need.
  9. Discuss mammography image receptors. 
  10. Identify design characteristics of film-screen mammography units.
  11. Discuss the advantages of digital imaging mammography.
  12. Describe how a digital image is created and processed.
  13. Discuss quality assurance for full field digital mammography.
  14. Identify networking and hardware components for digital mammography imaging.
  15. Define terms used to manipulate the image for individual digital images.
  16. Discuss basic additional diagnostic procedures and breast cancer treatments.

Unit  Assignments are submitted through link on homepage.

All assignments submitted will have a cover page containing the students name, the instructors name, the course name, the assignment (be specific), and the date submitted. Assignments not having the cover page will be returned to the student.



Note: You may not submit a paper for a grade in this class that already has been (or will be) submitted for a grade in another course, unless you obtain the explicit written permission of me and the other instructor involved in advance.

Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
