Course Objectives

 

Course Descriptions

THEA 2121 Rehearsal and Production:  Basic laboratory experience associated with the semester’s productions.  Assigned tasks in performance and/or production.

THEA 3121 Advanced Rehearsal and Production:  Prerequisite THEA 2121.  Advanced laboratory experience associated with the semester’s productions.


Course Expectations

 

Requirements

The student’s responsibilities are as follows:

  • Complete the “Cast and Crew Questionnaire.”
  • Check the Theatre Callboard (the bulletin board outside the Green Room) for the crew list, which should be posted no later than the Monday following the first majors/minors meeting.
  • Contact your crew head and watch for crew work calls.
  • Complete 4-5 hours per week for each production.
  • Crew heads must post crew meetings and weekly work calls.
  • Attendance at costume fittings. Missing a costume fitting will result in a lower final R&P grade.
  • If you are assigned to a running crew, you must attend a full run-through of the play before the first technical rehearsal (scenery, lighting, props) or before the first dress rehearsal (costumes, makeup).
  • Attendance at strikes for main stage and one-act productions is mandatory.  Work obligations are not an excuse.  You will earn a grade of “F” for that production for failure to attend strike.
  • Attendance to the Post-Production Evaluations is mandatory.  Work is not an excuse.  You will earn a grade of “F" for that production for failure to attend the evaluation, which will be held at 4:00 p.m. the first Friday after strike.
  • Attendance to Clean-Up Day is mandatory (the time and day are indicated in the attached information).   Failure to attend Clean-Up Day will result in receiving a failing grade for the semester.
  • Crew heads must complete and turn in evaluations of their crews by the time of the Post‑Production Evaluation.  Crew heads not meeting this deadline will receive a failing grade for that production.
  • Each student will receive a copy of the crew head’s evaluation.
  • On the first Monday after the first production of the semester has ended, work begins on the next production.  Therefore, crew heads need to post meetings and work calls for the second production on the first Monday following strike.
  • During the academic year – in the fall in most cases – theatre majors must receive special safety instruction and pass the safety test as part of their Rehearsal and Production requirements. Procedures for accomplishing these requirements will be made clear at the majors/minors meeting.
  • Both men and women who are cast in MSU Theatre productions must purchase acceptable rehearsal shoes.
  • Any questions or requests, such as requests for revisions of the crew lists, must be directed to the Professor of Record.

**Please note that work is not an excused absence from mandatory calls. Keep in mind that crew heads may schedule weekend work calls.

Wed., Sept. 28-Sat. Oct. 1:  Performances: curtain:  7:30 p.m.

Sun. Oct. 2:   Performance:  curtain:  2:30 p.m. Strike immediately following the production. Mandatory attendance.  Work is not a viable excuse.

OCTOBER

Fri., Oct. 7:  4:00 Post-production evaluation.   Mandatory attendance. 

NOVEMBER

Sat., Nov. 12:  8:00 a.m. Technical rehearsal for Bandersnatch.

Sun. Nov. 13-15:  Dress rehearsals for Bandersnatch.

Wed. Nov. 16:  High School performance of Brandersnatch.  9:00 a.m. call.

                        11:00 a.m. curtain. Talk back after the show.

Thurs. Nov. 17-19: Performances:  curtain: 7:30 p.m.

Fri. Nov. 18:  Talk back with audience after the show.

Sun. Nov. 20:  Performance:  curtain:  2:30 p.m. Strike immediately following the production.  Mandatory attendance.

Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
