The goal of this course is to continue the study of algebra initiated at high school and to prepare
students to take further courses in mathematics ( e.g. Trigonometry and Calculus I). Concepts of Function
and its Domain, Range and Graph will be seen. Linear, Quadratic, Polynomial and Rational functions
will be covered as well as Logarithmic and Exponential functions.
A graphing calculator is required. (suggested make: TI-84. This calculator will be used by the intructor.
There will be on-line homework (MyMathLab) given nearly every lecture.
Quizzes will be given nearly every lecture on the MyMathLab homework.
Three tests will be given during the semester.
The (compulsory) final exam will be comprehensive.
All quizzes, tests, and the final exam are closed book tests with the use
of the calculator permitted (and required).
Students will write their quizzes, test, and final exam on provided test forms.
Students are required to show all their calculations on tests.
Make up tests will be given only in exceptional circumstances. Students must make the request for
a make up test several days before the originally scheduled test.
Make up quizzes will never be given.
Attendance will be taken every lecture to inform the university admistration (e.g. for financial aid requirements),
but there is no attendance policy from the instructor.
The course grade for each student will be the best of the following two evaluations:

Best Test 20%
Second Test 20%
Worst Test 0%
Final Exam 30%
