Course Objectives

This Internet-based course explores the basic physical and technical principles of CT scanning.  Computer technology, system components, image characteristics, and quality control methods are introduced.  This course is designed to aid the student in preparation for the A.R.R.T.’s CT registry.  The student MUST have access to a CT unit to complete the laboratory portion of this course.


Course Expectations

This course is divided into individual study units. A list of learning objectives is found at the beginning of each study unit. You should read each objective so that you'll know what you're expected to learn from that particular unit of instruction. The examinations for this course are based on those learning objectives.

After you finish a unit of instruction you should complete the review exercises found at the end of the unit. You may search through the text to find any answer. The review exercises are designed to help prepare you for the unit examinations. 

Unit Exams

A Unit Examination accompanies each unit of instruction. Although each Unit Exam may be an "open book" evaluation of the text, you should first try to answer all questions without referring to the instructional materials. Each Unit Examination answer will be graded in realtime and feedback will be given for each response. You are encouraged to print the given feedback to help you prepare for the Diagnostic and Final Exams.  Recommended due dates are published in the Course Calendar.  No penalty will be assessed for submissions after the recommended due dates.  A 10% penalty will be assessed for exams submitted after the absolute due date published in the Course Calendar.

Lab Assignments
 
You are require to complete the Lab Assignment.  This will help reenforce learning.   NOTE: The labs will consist of utilizing many of the equipment functions and conducting quality control tests on the equipment.  Patient scanning  or contact is not required in this course.  You are responsible for making your own arrangements for completing the labs.  You must send to your instructor all lab projects that you complete before the due date indicated on the Course Calendar or receive a 10% penalty for late submission.

Diagnostic Exam
 
The Diagnostic Examination is a closed-book, timed examination of multiple-choice format, that is completed online to help you prepare for the Final Exam.  You will not have sufficient time to look up answers. You will have three (3) attempts and your grade will be the average of all attempts completed.  You are NOT required to complete all 3 attempts.  If you are satisfied with your grade, you can stop after your first or second attempt.  Your grade will be the average of all attempts completed.  Attempts must be completed by the due date published in the Course Calendar of face a 10% penalty for late submission.

 
Final Exam
 
The Final Examination is a closed-book, timed examination of multiple-choice, matching, & calculation format. The Final Exam is a proctored, timed examination that is completed online. Your proctor MUST be approved by your instructor. The Proctor Application form can be found in the course & is due by the published due date (no penalty for late submissions).  The Final Exam can be taken anytime you feel adequately prepared - after mid-semester.  The Final Exam must be completed by the due date published in the Course Calendar of face a 10% penalty for late submission.

Late Paper Policy

This is an Internet-based course.  All students are expected to fully participate in all class activities, including lectures and discussions, demonstrations, presentations, small-group projects, and collaborative learning activities.  A voluntary question & answer session will be held at MSU.  Consult the Course Calendar for date, time, & location.

All communications in this course, be it written (e-mail) or verbal, will be carried out in a professional and courteous manner.  You can generally expect a reply from me within 72 hours.  Though some may require a longer period, though none should be greater than 1 week.  If you do not receive a reply within a week, resubmit your message.


Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
