Course Objectives

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Introduce exercises associated with beginning weight training.
  • Increase familiarity with all relative machinery & equipment.
  • Introduce proper technique & safety precautions through a workout.
  • Recognize the primary muscles involved in various lifts.
  • Recognize the nutritional aspects of body development.
  • Have ability to create and maintain individual workout plans specific to the individual.
  • Create full body wellness physically, mentally & emotionally in association with a good weight training routine.

Course Expectations

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Proper attire is required.  This is limited to shorts, t-shirt, sweats and/or warm-up suits.  Soft soled shoes are also required, no sandals or flip-flops.  Abusive or explicit language, pictures, etc. on clothing is not allowed.
  2. Working toward improvement each day is required.  Lack of proper participation will result in an unexcused absence charged to the student.  Come to class ready to workout.
  3. Each student is required to keep a journal of their daily activities in Weight Training class.  The journal must be detailed and include all lifts, weights, sets, and repetitions.  The journals will be collected on the last day of class.
  4. Children of the students are not allowed in the weight room.
  5. Spotters are required anytime free weights are being used.
  6. In the case of bodily injury during class, medical assistance will be made available; however, insurance coverage and/or payments will be the responsibility of the student.

Grading Standards

PARTICIPATION GRADE:

Each day a student attends class and participates in class activities, they will be given full credit for participation.  Disruptive behavior and lack of participation will result in reduction of final grade and possible dismissal from class.

Attendance Requirements

ATTENDANCE:

Each student is allowed 3 absences for MWF classes and 2 absences for TR classes.   Each unexcused absence thereafter will affect the final grade in a negative manner.


Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
