Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1.     Assist registered technologists with emergency radiological examinations.

2.     Assist and perform examinations in the active examining areas.

3.     Satisfactorily complete Competency Evaluations from the List of Examination. You must complete 30 by the end of the semester.

4.     Evaluate each requisition.

5.     Demonstrate proper physical facilities readiness.

6.     Demonstrate proper patient care.

7.     Operate equipment effectively.

8.     Demonstrate correct positioning skills.

9.     Apply the principles of radiation protection.

10.  Evaluate the radiographic image for: correct anatomy, proper alignment, radiographic technique, and film identification, appropriate radiation protection.

11.   Complete all aspects of clinical competency evaluation.

12.  Perform according to prescribed standards.

13.  Observe the qualified radiographer while in the assigned rotation.

14.  Assist the qualified radiographer which in the assigned rotation.

15.   Perform various aspects of the selected procedure under direct supervision while in the assigned rotation.

16.   Demonstrate affective behaviors, as appropriate, for level of professional development.

Attendance Requirements

Two (2) days of clinical absences are allowed each semester. For each absence after the two allowable absences, the returning student must bring a doctor’s excuse and a receipt of service from the care provider. For each clinical day missed after the 2-day allowance, 5 points per absence will be subtracted from the final clinical grade. The student will be required to make-up the days missed and the make-up time must start within two weeks. You must contact the Clinical Instructor and Clinical Coordinator if you going to be absent.


Other Policies

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY: Academic dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism, etc.) will not be tolerated in this class and may result in suspension or dismissal from this course and from the program. Cases will be referred to the Dean of Students for possible dismissal from the university

Conduct / Honesty / Honor System: RADS 2114 adheres to the MSU code of Conduct. In particular, academic dishonesty, however small, creates a breach in academic integrity. A student's participation in this course comes with the expectation that his/her work will be completed in full observance of the MSU code of Student Conduct. A student should consult the Student Handbook for answers to any questions about the code.

 


Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
