Course Objectives

 

Program Objectives:

 

Students will be able to use the theoretical frameworks to understand human development and behavior across the life and the interactions between individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.

 

Students will be able to utilize the skills and knowledge of a generalist social work perspective to work with systems of all sizes.

 

Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to practice without discrimination and with respect, knowledge and skills related to client’s age, class, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, family structure, gender, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation.

 

Students will be able to identify the forms and mechanisms of historical and current discrimination and oppression and apply strategies of advocacy and social change that advance social and economic justice.

1.  To be knowledgeable of the history of social work and employee assistance plans in the workplace.

 

2.  To have practical skills to address common human needs in the workplace.

 

3.  To be knowledgeable in the laws that apply to employee rights in the workplace.

 

4.  To be familiar with the laws pertaining to employment.

 

5.  To be familiar with the process for addressing critical incidents, discrimination and harassment issues.

 

Educational Outcomes

 

1.  Students will be knowledgeable in the laws pertaining to employment.

 

2.  Students will be aware of ethics as they apply to systems of all sizes.

 

3.  Students will be knowledgeable in historical and contemporary issues in employee assistance plans and human resources.

 

4.  Students will be able to discuss the practical application of theories of human motivation to the work place environment.

 

5.  Students will understand how performance evaluation of employees can be used motivationally.

A= 90% of 200 points, 180-200 points

Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
