Lectures: MWF 9:00 – 9:50 AM --- Bolin Hall 309
Course Subjects: Equations, inequalities, rational expressions, exponents, logarithms, radicals, functions, graphs, and systems of equations. Each student must have a graphing calculator. (This course is designed for students planning to take additional mathematics.)
Text: A Graphical Approach to College Algebra, 5th Ed., by Hornsby, Lial and Rockswold
Calculator: A graphing calculator (preferably a TI-83/84) is required.
Course Evaluation: Suggested homework problems will be assigned but not graded. Instead, the material in the homework will be evaluated by announced/pop/take-home quizzes, short student presentations (board work), and student participation in small groups. The quizzes/presentations/group work will count as 20% of the final grade. There will also be four In-class Exams which will each count as 15% of the final grade. Finally, there will be a cumulative Final Exam which will count as 20% of the final grade.
Test Dates: Please note that the following test dates are tentative and may be changed (except for the scheduled date of the final). Any change will be announced in a timely manner.
Exam I --- Wednesday, September 19, 2012
Exam II --- Monday, October 15, 2012
Exam III --- Wednesday, November 7, 2012
Exam IV --- Wednesday, December 5, 2012
Final Exam --- Saturday, December 8, 2012, 10:30AM-12:30PM
Make-ups for exams and quizzes will only be allowed for a university approved excuse in writing. Wherever possible, students should inform the instructor before an exam or quiz is missed.
Letter Grades: The final letter grades will be determined by the following scale:
A --- 90% and above
B --- 80% - 89%
C --- 70% - 79%
D --- 60% - 69%
F --- 59% and below
