Lecture: MWF 9-9:50am; Lab: W 3-4:50pm
Lectures acquaint students with different concepts important to paleobiology, showing how the fossil record can be used to answer questions about evolution, ages of rocks, chemistry of the environment, paleoecology. Lab exercises focus on taxonomy and systematics, emphasizing functional morphology and evolutionary relationships.
Lecture- 75% of course grade: 25% midterm, 25% final, 25% article summaries.
Laboratory- 25% of course grade: 40% lab midterm, 40% lab final, and 20% field exercise.
Late assignments/laboratories will dropped by one letter grade for each day late.
Attendance is required; please be on time and do not leave early. Students with 3 or more lecture absences and/or 2 or more laboratory absences may be dropped from the course.
