Course Objectives

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

The focus of this course is to provide a statistics course specifically for health science majors using techniques and data structures relevant to clinical investigations. General topics include but are not limited to study design, central tendency and variability, probability, repeated measures analysis of variance, data association, prediction, and evaluating diagnostic procedures.

Supplemental Assignments:  Quizzes, homework assignments and projects will be assigned throughout the semester as needed to reinforce concepts introduced in the classroom.

Lecture Examinations and the Final Examination:In-class tests that will consist of definitions, multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, short answer, or essay type questions.

Late Paper Policy

 

MISSED HOMEWORK/EXAM POLICY

            Each student should make every effort to ensure that all assignments are submitted in a timely fashion.  A 10% reduction will be taken for each day after the scheduled due date for the assignment.  If a student is going to miss an examination, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor prior to the exam to arrange with the instructor to make up the missed exam.  A 5% reduction will be taken for each day after the scheduled exam date.  The professor reserves the right to make unscheduled exams essay in nature and considerably more challenging.


Plagiarism Policy Plagiarism is the use of someone else's thoughts, words, ideas, or lines of argument in your own work without appropriate documentation (a parenthetical citation at the end and a listing in "Works Cited")-whether you use that material in a quote, paraphrase, or summary. It is a theft of intellectual property and will not be tolerated, whether intentional or not.

Attendance Requirements

 

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular class attendance is required.  No distinction is made between excused and unexcused absences unless the absence has been cleared through the office of the Dean of Students, Athletic Department or Academic Affairs.  If a student misses a lecture, it is the student’s responsibility to work with other class members to determine what material was missed.  Please refer to the MSU Student Handbook for more information.

Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
