In this class, the following numerical equivalents for final grades are used: A = 100-90%; B = 89-80%; C = 79-70%; D = 69-60%; F = 59-0%.
All outside work will be typed and submitted in MLA format
Essays turned in late (after class ends on the due day) will immediately lose ten points and will continue to lose an additional ten points for every day that I do not have your essay. Please note that if your essay is five or more days late, you have already failed the essay; weekends are included in the count. Failure to turn in an essay completely will result in a zero for that essay grade. If you know that you will be absent the day an essay is due, make arrangements with me ahead of time to turn in your work early for full credit. Reading quizzes and homework assignments cannot be made up. Provided you have a doctor’s note, you will be able to make up major exams or in-class writings; however, you will have only two class periods starting the day you return to class to take advantage of this opportunity.
In order to successfully complete this course, attendance is imperative. MSU allows three absences for MWF classes. After three absences, each additional absence will result a 2.5 point deduction from you final average. Tardiness to class is disruptive and disrespectful to both the professor and your fellow classmates. I will count every two late arrivals as being equal to one absence and will deduct from your final average according to my absence policy. If you arrive any time after class begins, you will be considered tardy; furthermore, if you are ten minutes late or more, you will be counted absent.
Cell phones and other such gadgets are not to be used during class time. Sleeping and chatting with your friends will not be tolerated during class. If this behavior persists after I have spoken to you about it, you will be asked to leave the classroom and can possibly result in a referral to the dean of students. Disruptive behavior effects the education of your colleagues who have paid to attend this class; they, and I, deserve respect and the prospect of a “mature” classroom environment.
