Course Objectives

Course Objectives

Students will apply research methods to a solve problem related to education.
Students will conduct a review of current literature related to a research problem selected to complement their degree plan and professional goals
Students will collaborate with their program advisor to select a problem (hypothesis) upon which to base a formal action research project.
Students will secure permission to conduct research using human subjects.
Students will design a valid, meaningful, and practical research project.
Students will conduct original empirical action research and write a report of the results.

Grading Standards

You may submit your assignments as needed for feedback, but papers must be essentially error free prior to the deadline. If your paper is not essentially error free prior to the deadline, you must continue working on your paper until it is, but you will earn fewer points. (e.g. If your preliminary proposal is essentially error free and is submitted on or before Tuesday of the third week, you will receive 5 points. If your paper is submitted essentially error free after Tuesday of the third week, you will receive 3 points. If your paper is never submitted essentially error free, you will receive no points.

Submission Format Policy

All written assignments must be submitted electronically as a MS Word® file. No credit will be awarded for papers not submitted in Word format.
Written assignments should be carefully edited and conform to APA guidelines for correctness and style (double space, standard fonts, standard margins, etc.). I

Note: You may not submit a paper for a grade in this class that already has been (or will be) submitted for a grade in another course, unless you obtain the explicit written permission of me and the other instructor involved in advance.

Late Paper Policy

Late papers will result in a 10% deduction for each day of being late.

Plagiarism Policy Plagiarism is the use of someone else's thoughts, words, ideas, or lines of argument in your own work without appropriate documentation (a parenthetical citation at the end and a listing in "Works Cited")-whether you use that material in a quote, paraphrase, or summary. It is a theft of intellectual property and will not be tolerated, whether intentional or not.

Writing Proficiency Requirement All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed English 1113 and English 1123 and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
