The objective of this course is to introduce students to mathematical proofs.
Elementary set theory and logic will be seen as well as the four main
techniques of proofs: Direct proof, proof by contrapositive, proof by contradiction,
proof by induction. Proofs in Calculus be seen at the conclusion of the course.
The final exam is compulsory. The final exam is comprehensive.
Make-up tests are generally not given. They will be given only in exceptional
situations and when the student has made the request several days before the
date of the class-scheduled exam.
The course grade for each student will be the better of the
following two evalations:
Evaluation 1 Homework 5%
Test 1 20%
Test 2 20%
Test 3 20%
Evaluation 2 Homework 5%
Best Test 20%
Seccon Best Test 20%
Worst Test 0%
Homework assignments must be written on 81/2 x 11 paper.
Homework must be stapled.
Homework can be written in pencil or pen (blue or black)
Late homework assignments will not be accepted
Attendance is compulsory in the course.
Student who miss more than five lectures wll be withdrawn from this course with
the grade of WF before March 10, 2014 and with the grade of F after this date.
