12:35 to 1:45 pm, Monday through Thursday, January 18 through March 3, 2011.
To improve writing and editing skills.
Two essays a week, one written in class, one written outside of class.
No textbook required.
Course is pass/fail based on a holistic evaluation of a portfolio of three essays selected from the term's assignments and an in-class final examination essay.
Handwritten essays are accepted for out-of-class essays, though computer-generated papers are preferred. All in-class work will be handwritten. No dictionaries, translators, or other devices are allowed for in-class assignments.
This class does not teach academic citation. Therefore, no research is allowed on out-of-class essays. Topics will be chosen that allow students to base their writing on their own knowledge, observation, and experience.
Late papers due to unexcused absences will not be accepted.
Fourth unexcused absence will result in dismissal.
