COURSE CONTENT
This course is designed for students who have completed Spanish 1134 and 1234 or the equivalent. The focus is on improving communication skills (both oral and written) in the Spanish language and acquiring knowledge about cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

CLASS ACTIVITIES
There will be many opportunities provided during class for students to improve their communicative skills in Spanish. There will be whole-class activities, when the instructor interacts with the students, as well as group and paired activities. Students will be expected to participate readily during all class activities.
EXAMINATIONS
There will be three chapter tests, a mid-term exam, and a final exam. Students will also take quizzes over the homework assignments. No make-up quizzes will be given.
ORAL PROFICIENCY ASSESMENT
Students will take one oral exam at the end of the semester for the purpose of assessing language acquisition and fluency.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be assigned regularly from all text material. Students are expected to complete all homework assignments in order to prepare for the class activities and quizzes. Also, there are numerous supplemental activities on the textbook company´s website which include practice quizzes, audio exercises,video quizzes, and flashcards. Students are encouraged to use theses resources regularly. .
COMPOSITIONS
Students will write two compositions to demonstrate their ability to use acquired vocabulary, language, structures, and cultural information. The compositions will be written in class. No dictionaries will be allowed.
LANGUAGE LAB
Students will watch video clips from Mosaicos and take quizzes in the language lab. Attendance in the lab is required once per chapter. No make-ups!

ATTENDANCE
You are allowed a maximum of FOUR absences. Daily classes are divided into two parts. If you miss one part of class (before or after the break) it counts as one absence. You will be dropped from the course without further notice upon the occurrence of the fifth absence. Your presence and participation in class are of the utmost importance for your success in the course. Please arrive on time and expect to remain for the duration of the class. Do not get up and leave the classroom during classtime.
If you carry a cell phone or pager, turn it off. It will not be allowed in class. Text-messaging or the use of non-authorized electronic devices will be prohibited in class.
