1. Utilize concepts of the nursing process in planning care for individuals, families, groups, communities, and societies.
2. Integrate the concept of professionalism as identified by baccalaureate education.
3. Incorporate concepts of teaching-learning in health care.
4. Analyze research studies for application in health care.
5. Analyze current and emerging roles of the professional nurse in relation to scope of practice, and the impact on nursing practice, education, and research.
6. Discuss major theoretical concepts as they relate to the practice of professional nursing.
7. Compare and contrast selected nurse theorists with the Midwestern State University BSN program philosophy and organizing framework.
8. Use values clarification to develop and/or examine a personal philosophy of nursing for one's practice.

2. WebCT Discussions (2)
There are two threaded discussions which will be posted to the WebCT discussion board (under “Discussions” heading of WebCT) that reflect the learning goals of the course. The start and stop dates for these discussions can be found on the WebCT calendar.
3. Written Assignments (3)
This includes (1) personal philosophy of nursing paper (2) Nurse Theorist paper (3) Patient/Family Teaching Plan. These can be found under the “Assignment” heading of the WebCT.
Learning experiences: will include group discussion on Web CT, assigned and independent readings, written assignments, and web-based research with resources. Students are expected to be self-directed in the acquisition of knowledge.
Grading Standards
Grading scale:
90-100 = A
80-89 = B
74-79 = C
65-73 = D
64 and below = F
Grades will be based on a whole number score and will not be rounded.
Grading Policies:
Didactic Evaluation to pass: There will be 2 quizzes, three written assignments (Personal Philosophy of Nursing paper, Nurse Theorist paper, and Patient/Family Teaching Plan), and two WebCT discussions. You must have a 74% final grade to pass the course.

Points will be deducted for submissions up to 1 week late.

Clinical Components:
Note: All clinical components of the course must be completed with a grade of Pass to complete the course. You are required to have a total of forty-five (45) clinical hours to pass the course.
Clinical Performance: a final grade average of 74% plus a PASS for clinical components with all required clinical hours completed are essential to pass this course. Both clinical and online requirements must be satisfactorily completed in order to pass the course.
