Interests-Quantitative paleoecology of marine invertebrates -Ordovician biodiversification, stratigraphy and extinction -Trilobite systematics and alpha taxonomy -Integration of sequence stratigraphic and paleontologic data -Carbonate sedimentology and bioherm development -Basin and facies analysis, sedimentary petrology
Broadly speaking, my research incorporates techniques from multiple fields (systematics, paleoecology, sequence stratigraphy) to develop a model of how extinct organisms partition themselves in paleo-environments, and how they responded to sea level and other environmental change. I prefer an integrated approach to paleontology, where the study of evolution and animal morphology are done within a framework that includes analysis of the sedimentary rocks, their properties and depositional environments. More specifically, I've published research on trilobite and graptolite cladistics and alpha taxonomy, biofacies and paleoecology, and am currently working on a sequence stratigraphy and depositional history evaluation of the Bromide Formation in the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma. Looking to the future, I would like to provide research opportunities for undergraduates at Midwestern, and can offer a range of suitable projects for interested students. |
