Interests

Given my diverse educational background, my interests are equally assorted. My dissertation topic examined the lifetime costs (both economic and vocational) of various levels of traumatic brain injury. After my graduation, I worked for the largest corporate psychology firm in the US providing leadership development and assessment to corporations and government agencies to enhance the productivity, creativity and profitability of individuals and organizations. Once hired at MSU, I've taught a variety of classes in nursing. I currently coordinate the Mental health Nursing class.  I've also taught a Cross Cultural Communication class for the Honor's Program. I also teach a study abroad class on "Health Disparities: A Comparative Analysis of the US and the UK's Health care system" in London during the summer. As President of the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, I am interested in the recruitment and retainment of nurses worldwide. Recently, I taught in two nursing schools in India on mental health nursing issues. As past President of the Student Affairs Committee in Nursing at MSU, I am interested in recruitment and retainment issues in our own program as well. I am interested in the detection, dissuasion and elimination of cheating among college students. Currently, I'm President of the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and I'm interested in the current issues surrounding mental illness in the US (stigma, epidemiology, health care coverage, mental  health care services and providers, and suicidology).
