BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Genung is Assistant Professor and the Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP) Program Coordinator for Midwestern State University Wilson School of Nursing Wichita Falls, TX. She is on the medical staff at North Texas State Hospital acting as psychiatric nurse practitioner attending over an Adolescent Forensic Unit, both children and adolescent units on the Child and Adolescent Program, currently on Geripsychiatric unit  and works in collaboration with the physicians on staff at the Wichita Falls and Vernon Campuses. She has earned a PhD in Family Studies and Human Development; a Masters in Theological Studies; a Masters in Clinical Social Work; Masters, Bachelors, and Associates degrees in Nursing; and a Bachelors in Psychology.

Since 1983 she has been active in her private practice, Counseling and Health Consultants, as a psychotherapist and consultant. Her clinical licenses include: Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Advanced Clinical Practitioner (LMSW-ACP), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), as well as Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (F-PMH-NP), and Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (RN-CS currently inactive) as a Board Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN-BC) with prescriptive authority in TX.

In addition to private practice counseling and psychiatry, Dr. Genung has worked as a nurse in acute care hospitals settings (ICU especially neuro-ICU, medical-surgical, and recovery room), rehab and long-term care, and mental health settings. As a clinician, she works with patients from across the lifespan; children, adults, couples, and families of all ages and with a wide range of mental health issues and disease processes.

Dr. Genung has taught undergraduate and graduate courses for several Colleges and Universities and maintained private counseling and prescribing practices. Dr. Genung has developed business plans and protocols to place nurse practitioners in collaborative practice with psychiatrists, as well as precepting and providing clinical supervision to graduate students in the fields of nursing, social work, marriage & family therapy, counseling education, and chemical dependency counseling.

Dr. Genung is Co-Chair of the the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Child and Adolescent Council (CAC) Stearing Committee and a member of the CAC Expert Panel. She is also the APNA Texas Regional Representative for Wichita Falls and the surrounding areas and is a paneled reviewer for the Texas regional and state Manifestly Dangerous Review Board.
