Please note: Graduates and guests may want to wear warm footwear and clothing. It will be ice hockey season, and the coliseum floor will be ice, covered with a non-slip surface.
The doors will open at 9:00 a.m. for the 10:00 a.m. ceremony. Graduates should arrive no later than 9:15 a.m. Report to ROOMS 1 and 2 of the MPEC (separate building adjacent to the Kay Yeager Coliseum.) Use the entrance to the left of the flags. Signs will indicate where the graduates will line up. Family members and guests will not be allowed in the graduate line up area and should proceed to the Kay Yeager Coliseum. As commencement draws a large audience, elderly persons and others who need special assistance should plan to arrive as early as possible. We anticipate the ceremony will last about two hours. After the recessional, graduates will proceed outside to meet family and guests.
Hood for Master's Candidates: You will walk on stage with your hood draped over your right arm (further instructions will be given as you line up prior to the ceremony). You will receive your diploma cover in your left hand and shake the Regent's hand with your right hand. You will then move to the Graduate Dean, Dr. Deborah Garrison, who will remove the hood from your arm. At that moment you should turn to face the audience. Dr. Garrison will then place the hood over your head and fix the back of the hood appropriately. If you are quite tall, please flex your knees a bit to assist with the hooding after Dr. Garrison takes your hood from you. When complete, Dr. Garrison will say "Congratulations" and you should turn to your right and proceed to shake the President's hand and your college dean's hand. The photograph with the President is candid, so you do not have to stop to pose for that photo.
Diplomas: When you walk across the stage, you will be handed a diploma cover. Grades for December graduates will be submitted the week following commencement. If all of your degree requirements are completed, diplomas may be picked up beginning January 14, 2014. You must bring a picture I.D. If you have someone else pick up your diploma, you must send a signed authorization for us to release it to that person and they must show appropriate identification. If you asked us to mail your diploma, it will be mailed about January 21, 2014. Students who did not complete degree requirements will be notified by letter.
Photographer, Recording, and DVD: The University has arranged for a photographer to take pictures as you shake hands with President Rogers and additional poses after you exit the stage. The photograph with the President is candid, so you do not have to stop to pose for that photo. Proofs will be mailed to your current mailing address as you indicate on the line up card. Please also check your mailing address in WebWorld and update if needed. Order information may be found at www.FlashPhotography.com Dept. Code: FWP313.
