Texas Governor's School : Midwestern State University

The Texas Governor's School is a free (except for transportation to and from, and personal expenses) three week intensive summer educational program, open to all qualified resident Texas students who have completed 10th or 11th grade, regardless of race, ethnicity, income or background, from all across the state of Texas. Student applicants will be drawn in the same proportion as their regional ESC districts.

This program will focus on enriching and developing a student's abilities in multiple academic disciplines. Students will choose from a math/science track or an arts/literature track as well as exploring the impacts of these fields on the future as well as their relationship and dependence on each other.

Students will learn communication skills as well as leadership skills by participating in ropes course activities, debates, discussion groups, and communication workshops.

Problem solving skills, networking, and academic skills will be needed to complete a community service project which will also satisfy an advanced diploma project requirement. Students will creatively engage themselves in a project to solve a need at a non-for-profit organization as well as learn important teamwork skills.

Leadership is more than delegation. Collaboration between companies, people groups, and other organizations is needed to be successful. Leadership panels and other tools will be utilized to teach these important skills and concepts.
