International Outreach Specialist
Responsible for assisting international students to ensure compliance with guidelines and resolution of disputes involving admission, student accounts, scholarships, health insurance, tuition, housing, and other areas. Advises and manages international student accounts. Manages programs and outreaches to international agencies such as the OAS, LASPAU, OECS, foreign partner institutions, and special programs established in other countries. Assists with the recruitment of international undergraduates for MSU graduate programs. Reports directly to the Director of International Services.
Reports and resolves all issues regarding tuition levels for individual students and the university. Assists international students in managing competitive waivers, TIER II, and scholarship processing. Collects, pays, and handles all matters related to international student health insurance. Processes insurance payments. Advises students on claims and related matters; resolves disputes with student accounts, scholarships, and tuition issues; assists in the admission and evaluation process. Resolves international students’ disputes with housing, travel, and other logistics. Assists international organizations with transportation and logistics for events; manages various agent accounts; verifies and submits invoices for payments. Processes international students’ scholarship notification awards each semester and maintains scholarship database. Maintains TIER II database and Banner. Other duties as assigned.
Requires extensive responsible experience in working with international students and student accounts in a university environment.
Should have geographic knowledge and cultural sensitivity to work with diverse populations. Must be skilled in the use of computers and computer software programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with Banner finance software is highly desirable.
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, accounting or related discipline required. Master’s degree preferred.
Must be able to understand, interpret, explain, and apply pertinent policies and procedures clearly and accurately. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be willing to work late seasonally and to assist students with personal problems in emergencies. Must be “student friendly” and able to work with colleagues in a team environment. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
